Thank you for your work! As a non-Portuguese living in Portugal for 5 years now, I fully realise how incredibly detached libertarianism is from the Portuguese political system. I love this country, I love its people, yet Portugal is the ultimate nanny state and its people are among the most gullible I have ever met in my 50+ years in this realm. Your contribution is very valuable and necessary, for I have never understood why one of the most rich and geographically ideal countries in Europe has turned into a quite dystopian political landscape with its lovely people completely disillusioned and indifferent.

I would love to one day put the simple tagline "Handmade in Portugal" on the things I craft, but as things are right now, it would not help my sales. Quite the contrary.

Portuguese should embrace their country and culture. Take pride in creating beauty and high quality products. They can! I know many Portuguese. It's the state promoted indifference that holds this country back. Time to reclaim it. Let's start by making things plumb, level and square when they need be.

Again, thank you.

(My Portuguese is quite mediocre, so I decided to write this comment in English. Desculpe.)

thank you for your comment. We're proud when we realise we're doing a good job. Would you like to have an article written by you about Portugal and its potential, in the eyes of a foreigner? I think it would be interesting for our readers to realise what we can do for the country

I'd have to think about that, because I would hate to be "that foreigner" who tells the locals what they could do better. I really love this country and there's a very thin line separating constructive criticism and perceived arrogance. One simple thing that really strikes me everyday, is that somehow Portuguese have lost their love for aesthetics and beauty. Why do so many people refuse to simply clean up the garbage around their houses? Why does everyone hoard roof tiles and just throws them around everywhere on their land?

If you stop caring about your own personal living space and stop seeing the mess, how can one even care about the state of their country? Or is this maybe a chicken-egg thing?

Portugal is the most beautiful country in Europe (I've visited all countries in Europe) and the Portuguese are the sweetest people in Europe. Somewhere they must have become disillusioned. Maybe it was their yearning for liberty post 1974, and the realisation that with liberty comes personal responsibility that broke them? The potential here is insane, if only the Portuguese were prouder of the things that matter instead of wallowing in nostalgia, envy and melancholy.

there is no arrogance when truths are spoken. We Portuguese always give more credit to what comes from outside than to what comes from here. That's why your opinion will be important. Because an outsider's view of the good and bad that we have is more considered than when it's a Portuguese person saying it
